With the beginning of the “Photo Vogue Festival”, a temporary exhibition was held in Palazzo Reale in the heart of Milan: Beyond the still Image, about the works of a Norwegian fashion photographer and film maker Sølve Sundsbø, curated by Alessia Glaviano and Michel Van Horne.
By following the guided path in Palazzo Reale, it is possible to completely immerge ourseves into the photographer’s world: his artworks ranged from iconic Photos to unreleased works, from videos to installations made specifically for the event. Every work presented by him surprises the audience with the pioneristic use of technologies and with the unique ways some works are presented, playing with the concept of the photography itself.
Following what I have just written, I would like to stress the fact that every work presented by Sølve Sundsbø presents an innovative way to look at the world of photography: photos are not only bidimensional nor still anymore, they merge with the surroundings and go beyond the common perception of the image.
A strong sense of freedom sparks from his works, which are realized almost without having to put boundaries to creativity and innovations, of course everything has to be made within the overall rule of good taste.
To realize his works, he relied heavily on modern technologies and is not afraid to incorporate them into his works he fully embraces todays scientific advancements (X rays and 3D scans are some examples of modern techniques used by him).
Overall, this exhibition in Palazzo Reale really allows the viewer to dive into this magical and avant-guarde world created by Sølve Sundsbø, which is completely but also positively detached from real one, giving us the chance to escape from our everyday life and enjoy the mesmerizing colors and shapes of his art works.
